Local Optimist clubs have worked together to support children enrichment facilities at Zoo Montana. Out of the cooperation between local clubs, the Optimist Playground was developed, complete with slides, climbing facilities, and boardwalks. Local clubs have worked to build a relationship with Zoo Montana to maintain and enhance the playground over the years. Historically, clubs come together the first Saturday of June to perform maintenance on the equipment and replace as necessary.
This year (2013), the Zoo Cleanup project will take place June 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. With the help of Jeff’s Ewalt’s new energetic personality and volunteers from local Optimist clubs, there will be some noticable changes to the playground by introducing “natural” features to it such as large rocks and logs for kids to climb on. We’ll also be performing some much needed maintenance.
This year, we need volunteers to help with:
Installing and setting natural exhibits (don’t worry, the heavy lifting will already be done)
Applying water proofing stain to wooden playground equipment.
Pull weeds, grounds cleanup
Spread mulch around equipment
In addition, for anyone with handyman experience, there is a small playhouse in the playground that needs some walls and a roof.
A BBQ will follow for the volunteers afterwards.
Please contact us here if you have any questions or would like to let us know you would like to attend. Any and all help is appreciated!
